Week 8 NFL Point Spreads and Picks
http://www.footballlocks.com/nfl_point_spreads.shtml
Without further delay, the picks:
Denver at Baltimore
The media has given me every reason to pick the Ravens - they're at home, coming off a bye week, with their season hanging in the balance, etc. I head all that same kind of stuff in every other game the Broncos were underdogs and they've done nothing but win. I'm a believer in Denver.
Denver wins
Cleveland at Chicago
The Bears will bounce back. There are only a few teams in the NFL for which a line like this is appropriate. The Browns are one of them. At home, take the Bears and take the points.
Chicago wins, Chicago covers
Houston at Buffalo
This game scares me. Houston saw a commanding lead evaporate and barely held on to be San Fran. I like the Texans, but not to cover.
Houston wins, Buffalo covers
Minnesota at Green Bay
To me, this game is simple. Who has the better team? The Vikings. What quarterback knows how to win at Lambaeu better than any other? Favre.
Minnesota wins, Minnesota covers
San Francisco at Indianapolis
The Colts are the best team no one is talking about. They'll use their traditional formula of getting up big early and forcing the opposition to throw the ball. That's a recipe for disaster for the 49ers.
Colts win, Colts cover
Miami at NY Jets
I'll take the Jets, but don't take that as a ringing endorsement.
Jets win, Jets cover
St. Louis at Detroit
Take a picture, Lions fans. You may never be favored against another team not named Cleveland, St. Louis, or Tampa Bay, at home for a couple of years.
Lions win, Lions cover
Seattle at Dallas
The 'Boys are finding their stride. The Seahawks are running into a buzzsaw here.
Cowboys win, Cowboys cover
Oakland at San Diego
The Chargers will blow out the Raiders, but something tells me they won't cover. Oh yeah, Norv Turner's the coach.
Chargers win, Raiders cover
Jacksonville at Tennessee
I'll take a flier on the Titans in Game 1 of the Vince Young Experiment: Part 2.
Titans win, Jaguars cover
Carolina at Arizona
The Cardinals are a team on the rise, and the Panthers are a team on a precipitous decline.
Cardinals win, Cardinals cover
NY Giants at Philadelphia
This looks like the game of the week. I've seen other lines that call it eve, but footballlocks.com has the Giants as a one point favorite. I'm gonna say for me, its a pick em. This game is a wash. Give me the Eagles at home.
Eagles win
Atlanta at New Orleans
The Saints score 45 every game, so all they have to do to cover a double digit number is give up 30 or so. They can do that.
Saints win, Saints cover
Week 7 Picks and Scoreboard Recap
In a Week of blowouts, two of the better games were Vikings vs. Steelers and Dolphins vs. Saints. Drew Brees engineered a 2nd half comeback to keep New Orleans undefeated, while Brett Favre and Minnesota sit and wonder about what could have been.

A Boring Week
Late recap, busy week. You can check out all the scores by clicking on this link:

Not too many surprises in Week 7. I combined for a week record of 4-8-1.
I rest my case with the Vikings. They were the better team on the field in Pittsburgh, but they still lost the game. Right now, it doesn't look like they want it enough.
Easy victories for the Chargers, Patriots, Packers, and Colts represented my only three win and cover victories.
In a pick em, the Bears went out and laid an egg, as Cincinnati showed that they are who we thought they were (when we thought they were good at 4-1).
The Texans 49ers game ended in a dead even draw.
The fact that I blew it with the Jets actually makes me happy because I wanted them to win. My fault for betting for JaMarcus Russell against anyone. The fact that Gang Green beat a JV squad won't make me think they'll beat the Dolphins on Sunday.
I thought that the Saints, Cowboys, and Eagles would win. They did. I thought their three opponents; the Dolphins, Falcons, and Redskins would cover. They didn't.
Carolina is even worse than I thought, and looking back at it, their game against Buffalo was literally a no win situation. If I were a betting man, I would've looked, but not touched. Alas, I am not, nor can I be, because I am broke. So, instead I write this blog.
The Giants really surprised me. Maybe my rooting interest blinded me from something in this game, because I really thought the Giants would run right over Arizona.

Week 7 NFL Picks
San Diego at Kansas City
This is the perfect game for the Chargers to get right. I'm comfortable with the 5 points, and in fact I think the Chargers will win by double digits.
Chargers win, Chargers cover
Indianapolis at St. Louis
14 points is not enough. This is going to be a bloodbath.
Colts win, Colts cover
Chicago at Cincinnati
This is a pick em. After last week, I'm not going to pick the Bengals again unless they give me a reason to believe. Give me the Bears
Bears win
Green Bay at Cleveland
Not even a huge game from kick return man Josh Cribbs will save the Browns from a humiliating defeat. I'm okay with the 9 points.
Packers win, Packers cover
Vikings at Steelers
This is going to be a great game and I'm really looking forward to it. Give me the Steelers at home, but it'll be closer than 6 points.
Steelers win, Vikings cover
New England at Tampa Bay (at London)
The only reason this won't be as bad for the Bucs this week as it was for the Titans last week is because both teams are traveling outside the country to play the game. That said, it will be bad and it won't be close.
Patriots win, Patriots cover
San Francisco at Houston
This could turn out to be a good game as well. The teams are pretty evenly matched, but I'll give the edge in offensive firepower to the team with the home field advantage.
Texans win, Texans cover
NY Jets at Oakland
I've picked the Jets the last two weeks, and they've killed me, so I'm going to start picking against them.
Oakland wins
Buffalo at Carolina
I feel very confident taking a Panther team that is shaping up over the Bills, who would be terrible even if they were at full strength.
Carolina wins, Carolina covers
New Orleans at Miami
The Dolphins wildcat offense can expose the Saints defense. Not to the tune of a W for the home team, but it'll be very close.
New Orleans wins, Miami covers
Atlanta at Dallas
This is the final time I will pick the Cowboys if they fail to come through for me. That said, I think they can get it done.
Cowboys win, Falcons cover
NY Giants at Arizona
The Cardinals are running into a buzz saw this week. The Giants are out to prove they're still a top tier NFC team. This one won't be pretty.
Giants win, Giants cover
Philadelphia at Washington
I'll take the Eagles, but I am no more confident in them than I usually am.
Eagles win, Redskins cover

Week 6 Recap
Up top are some images from Week 6. First, Chris Clemons' expression on the sideline says it all as the Eagles fall to the lowly Raiders. Next, Eddie Royal breaks one of his two kick-return touchdowns in a big Monday Night road win vs. San Diego, which allowed Denver to take control of the AFC West. Finally, Brett Favre and one of his new favorite recievers Sidney Rice had huge games as the Vikings weathered a late Baltimore comback to hang on at home.

Been an extremely busy week, so I haven't got a chance to post until right now. Anyhow, with that said, I'll post my Week 6 Recap and immediately follow it up with a Week 6 Scoreboard and Picks Recap and, on Saturday, a Week 7 preview.
ANY GIVEN SUNDAY
Karl Roman
Week 6 in the NFL: It was the kind of week that reminds us why we love the NFL. The games have to be settled on the field, and, on AGS, paper champions can be exposed by cellar dwellers.
1st and 10
The Bengals laid an egg after a big win. I was surprised, I probably shouldn't have been. The Seahawks laid an egg at home and I was floored.
2nd Down
On the home front, the Giants ran into a buzzsaw, but it happens. The Jets endured the growing pains of a rookie quarterback and an offensive coordinator who needs to shape up his game plan for Oakland this coming Sunday. That said, the elements of Giants stadium have defeated many a quarterback who went on to have successful careers, so I'm really more concerned with Schottenheimer's play calling.
I was right about the Patriots. In fact, I even overestimated the Titans. My calls for Vince Young to start will continue in full force.
Wins for the Panthers, Chiefs and Jaguars mean nothing, and do more to confirm what we already know about the Bucs, Skins, and Rams. Expect John Riggins and Sonny Jorgenson to spend a couple more hours in these coming weeks tearing apart the Zorn-Cerrato adminstration piece by piece (See my previous post)
The Packers and Steelers, although Pittsburgh didn't cover, went about their business in Week 6, dismantling lesser opponents.
The Game of the Week
Minnesota vs. Baltimore
This was, and should have ended, a Vikings blowout. It became a game late. Credit should be given to Joe Flacco for playing dinged up and for teaming with Ray Rice to spark a comeback. The Ravens nearly overcame a poor effort by the Baltimore defense, which is declining in front of our eyes, and one with which Brett Favre and All Day AP had their way.
To me, the real story here is the Viking porous defense. Their open-field tackling is horrendous, and they need to learn how to close games. Until I see a hungrier approach from Minnesota, I won't put them with the upper tier of teams in the NFC. You can't allow a team to nearly beat you in your dome when you're up 13 midway to late in the fourth quarter. It's just bad football and it just can't happen.
His team may now be 6-0, but in no capacity (at least on defense) should Brad Childress be pleased with the Viking's performance. He ought to run them into the ground in practice this week, until they can show the tenacity and defensive blood-lust they'll need to reach the Super Bowl and win it all.
Upset of the Week
Philadelphia vs. Oakland
The Eagles loss to the Raiders might look perplexing on paper, but it comes with a pretty simple explanation. When they get Brian Westbrook involved in the offense, they can beat any team in the NFL. When they don't, they will lose to every team in the NFL. Donavan McNabb continues to be consistently inconsistent. I have no idea what to expect from him week to week, or down to down for that matter.
Week 6 Statement Games
Falcons vs. Bears
An ugly game, but an important win for Atlanta against a team they likely could jockey with for the final Wild Card spot.
Broncos vs. Chargers
The Broncos are for real. The Chargers are not, and you could argue, never were in 2009. Coach McDaniels, Brandon Marshall, Kyle Orton, and a bunch of other malcontents and misfits continue to prove their critics wrong by just keeping on winning. Enough said.

Yeah it's about time!
An excellent blog! Fairly self-explanatory in nature.
